New Tibase Abutment Scanbodies

Those of you that have had the opportunity to create a custom abutment with the CEREC system know what the image is below.  This is called a Scanbody.  The Scanbody is placed on top of the TiBase and is used to tell the software the position of the implant in the patients mouth.  The software reads the triangle and knows the position of the implant.

One of the learning curves with this is that you have to position the Scanbody on top of the implant properly.  Dr. Mike Skramstad has a great video here where he shows how he marks the Scanbody with a pen to correct the orientation.  There is a small notch on the Tibase and the Scanbody that line up and allow the plastic component to seat completely.  The video can be found here:   http://www.cerecdoctors.com/digital-learning/view/id/786/category/1   The new Scanbodies are a better design because instead of having to place a pen mark to line up the notches, the piece now comes with a bump on the outside that lets the user know the orientation.  This allows the user to line up the Scanbody without having to paint the line for orientation.
