Sirona C In Blocks for CEREC

Sirona’s latest block shows promise for multiple anterior applications.

The blocks consist of an inner core of highly chromatic dentin covered by a translucent layer of enamel. The dentin cores are modeled after the shape of dentin in natural teeth. The outer shape of the tooth is determined by the Biogeneric data in the software. An algorithm integrated in the software aids for the right positioning of the restoration in the block, so that the exact tooth color selected by the user is achieved.

In this case a 60 year old female was looking for a more esthetically pleasing smile. The teeth were prepared for crowns and imaged in Chairside 4.2 software. The consistent dentin shade and opacity corrected for a wide variance of stump shades. If a more translucent block were selected, the color match may have been more of a challenge. The incisal 1/3 has nice translucency without the need for a cutback and layering.

The number of blocks and materials available to the CEREC dentist is growing. It is nice to have choices!

What's the fracture resistance vs Emax?

Bob (and anyone else), how has your experience been so far with C blocks? I saw Igor Denisov also posted pictures with a fantastic case using C blocks. Is this the go-to material for blocking out dark stumps?
I find even 2mm emax LT sometimes just doesn’t blockout enough,

Blog post blast from the past!

Alex. These blocks are kind of tricky to work with for single anteriors. They do block out dark stumps, but really no better than an .emax LT. I've used them on a few multiple unit cases, but I don't have the experience or confidence to use them for a single unit.

The material is felspathic porcelain.  So use them in the same situations as Vita or Empress.
