Every once in a while you come across a case where you just want to copy the anatomy and nuances of a neighboring tooth. Generally this is the case when dealing with a single central incisor. In this case our patient presented as an emergency with a badly broken down tooth #8. The design option are…

1.    Biogeneric Individual: In this design mode the software will, though a series of logarithms, design the crown. This mode is very strong in the posterior and is used 95% of the time by all users. In the anterior it can be hit or miss and often leaves us with a proposal in need of some work.

2.    Biogeneric Copy: In this design mode the software will copy the pre-existing situation and duplicate the pre-op in the proposal. This is a very powerful design mode in the anterior. Unfortunately, in this case the pre-op condition was poor and there was no time available to create a nice diagnostic wax up or composite mock up to copy.

3.    Biogeneric Reference: In this mode the software will copy and mirror a pre-selected adjacent tooth. In this case we wanted to mirror the unique characteristics of tooth #9.

This case was done in Biogeneric Reference. The block was e.max LT in A3. While there certainly is some room for improvement in the final result, the patient was happy to have a tooth that resembled her own dentition and not a stock “cap”.
